What’s in my camera bag?

Nikon D3

Nikon D3
The D3 is our main workhorse. Of all the weddings I have shot, over 50% of the shots were taken with the D3. The speed and durability is uncompromised. In my experience, the auto-focus is twice as fast and accurate as my trusty D700. I don’t think even the D800 can beat its speed. Absolutely a must have if you are serious about photographing fast paced events.

Nikon D700

Nikon D700
The affordable and lightweight alternative to the D3 when speed and durability (bang-er-bility) is not so much of a concern. Under the right lighting condition, it will produce an image equal to that of our D3.

Nikon D300

Nikon D300
The D300 is a good backup to our camera system. The DX sensor allow us to take zoomed in, candid shots of people at weddings.

On-Camera Flashes

Nikon SB-900

Nikon SB-900
This flash is worth every penny since it is our biggest, baddest, and most reliable flash. Nikon have really gone out of their way to improve on the SB-800 such as power deliver, light coverage and recycling time.

Nikon 14-24/2.8

Nikon 14-24/2.8
Part of the holy trinity of Nikon zooms, the ultra-wide allows me to capture big groups of people when I don’t have the space to move back. Absolutely necessary if you want to be ready in all situtations.

Nikon 24-70/2.8

Nikon 24-70/2.8
Part of the holy trinity of Nikon zooms, the normal zoom is best for smaller events where super wide and super zoom is not necessary. This len, event though it has super fast focus just like the other two trinity lens, it sits mainly in the camera bag as a backup in case the other two fails to perform.

Nikon 70-200/2.8

Nikon 70-200/2.8
Part of the holy trinity of Nikon zooms, the super zoom is a must have for weddings since I cannot stress how annoying it is for the guests to have a photographer stand right in front of the action 100% of the time. It is a heavy, fast, accurate zoom that will let you catch moments from far away. It also has the potential of defending you from threats from small animals.

Nikon 50/1.4

Nikon 50/1.4
One of my favourite prime, it is light and sharp. At F1.4 you can have some shallow depth of field shots that is simply not possible with the other lens.

Nikon 105/2.8

Nikon 105/2.8
In my opinion, the sharpest primes I have. This lens is mainly used for my detail shots. It is simply not useful for anything that moves since the focus is so slow. Despite the shortcoming, it stays on me 100% of the time because of the macro capability.

Nikon 85/2.8 Tilt-Shift

Nikon 85/2.8 Tilt-Shift
Another cool prime that can give you results no other lens can. This lens splits its time in my bag and on my holster.
